ABOUT THE LAB

THESS-AHALL

The Medical Physics Laboratory is part of the School of Medicine in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), the largest Greek University with numerous research projects in the European and international research arenas. The lab’s main strengths lie with the operation in actual community settings and residences following a paradigm of actual in-the-wild collection and processing of data, offering ecological validity schemes, a strategic geographical location and a wide, trans-national network with strong collaboration capacity with the Active and Healthy Ageing (AHA) ecosystem in Greece and the Balkan region. It participates in the European Initiative on Active and Healthy Aging (EPIonAHA) and is member of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) with the Thessaloniki Active and Healthy Ageing Living Lab (ThessAHALL).

CHALLENGE

To fight loneliness in the ageing population using ambient assisted living solutions

Why this challenge?

Thess-AHALL’s vision is to enhance the active citizenship of older adults and tackling the possible risk of ageism, by introducing an alternative life-long learning programme in which older adults are invited to co-explore and co-create solutions for key societal problems of their city. Following the research methodology, the “Partners of Experience” programme sets its own research questions to be explored. Various experiential and intergeneration activities are organised with University students in a co-creation playground for finding solutions and alternatives to improve main pillars of the everyday city life (e.g. environment, active citizenship, public health and social welfare) for the participants and their co-citizens.
